From 8 September to 6 October, Reizen door Zeeland is conducting research into Flex. Through this research, we want to better understand how travellers experience the service and what residents expect from Flex.

Zeeland Bridge works: how to travel to and from Colijnsplaat

From 1 September, the bascule bridge section of the Zeeland Bridge will be renovated. As a result of these works, several bus routes will be diverted and journey times may change. The works will affect bus routes 132, 628 and 629, among others.

To continue serving passengers as effectively as possible, Connexxion has introduced an adjusted timetable. This means departure times and routes are better aligned with the diversions in place during the works.

 

Free shuttle service in Colijnsplaat

At the same time as the works on the Zeeland Bridge, work will also be carried out at the Noordlandseweg – 1e Deltaweg/N256 junction. As a result, it will not be possible for temporary bus route 232 to serve Colijnsplaat.

To keep Colijnsplaat accessible, the Province of Zeeland is providing a free shuttle service between Colijnsplaat and Kortgene during the works. The shuttle travels through the village of Colijnsplaat and also stops at Colijnsplaat, Zeelandbrug. This means passengers from Kats and the immediate area around this stop can also use the shuttle service.

In Kortgene, the shuttle connects with bus route 31 to and from Goes.

The shuttle operates on weekdays:

  • from 07:00 to 10:00
  • from 14:00 to 18:00

The planned timetable is as follows:

  • Colijnsplaat, Zeelandbrug: 07:02, 07:44, 08:34, 09:34, 14:34, 15:34, 16:36 and 17:36

Flex is also available during shuttle operating hours

In addition to the free shuttle service, you can always use Flex, including during the hours when the shuttle is running. This can be useful, for example, if the shuttle only runs once an hour and you would like to travel at a different time.

Flex complements the regular Zeeland bus services and operates on behalf of the Province of Zeeland. You travel by car or minibus with a driver. Flex operates seven days a week from 06:00 to 23:00.

From 22 June: (neighbourhood) bus, train and Flex together in one travel advice

What is changing?

Planning a trip soon in the Reizen door Zeeland app? Then you will automatically see suitable travel advice. This looks not only at Flex rides, but also at the available bus, community bus and train connections, and combinations of these options.

This means that on routes where there is a good bus or train connection, you will more often receive travel advice by bus or train, possibly in combination with Flex. As a result, trips longer than 25 kilometers can now also be planned via the Reizen door Zeeland app. Flex plays a crucial role in this system, but as a supplement to the existing bus and train connections.  

So it may happen that a trip you currently often make with Flex will soon be offered via another transport option, or that a combination of transport options will be offered.

 

Why is this changing?

The vision of Reizen door Zeeland is that combining different transport options leads to better accessibility throughout Zeeland. This vision has been in place since the introduction of Reizen door Zeeland, but until recently the journey planner was not yet able to make smart combinations between Flex, the bus, community bus and train. This meant that the app could only offer Flex trips. That is now different.  

Thanks to this update, we are able to deploy all available vehicles more intelligently and help more travelers.

 

What does this mean in practice?

For example, do you want to travel between Middelburg station and Vlissingen station? From now on you will immediately receive travel advice by train or bus, because a good connection is already available there.  

Do you want to travel from Hulst to Vlissingen? Then you will get a combination of Flex, bus and train. An option that was not possible before.

For example, do you want to travel from Oostburg to Cadzand? Then you will be offered a direct Flex ride.

Since there are gaps in the fixed timetable, for both the bus and the train, at certain times and/or on certain days, Flex is there to fill that gap. So it may be that you travel a certain route on Monday morning by scheduled bus but on Saturday evening with Flex. This does not mean, by the way, that when there is an incident with the bus or train, Flex then immediately becomes the alternative.

 

A stronger overall offering

With this adjustment, bus, community bus, train and Flex work better together. This gives you as a traveler more available travel options, and you can plan trips, with the Reizen door Zeeland app, throughout Zeeland, and the way you are transported is always the most suitable solution.

Buurtbus forms an indispensable link in the new transport system

Zeeland is working hard on the transition from public transport to public mobility. In the new system, the existing fixed routes of bus, community bus, train and ferry are strengthened with flexible on-demand transport: the Flex. The Flex runs seven days a week, from 06.00 to 23.00, and ensures that travellers can also get from A to B outside the regular timetable.

The Flex, operated with passenger cars or vans with a driver, is explicitly intended as a supplement to the existing network. This keeps mobility in Zeeland accessible to everyone, even at times and in places where fixed public mobility is less available.

Crucial role for the community bus

Despite this innovation, the community bus remains an important pillar within Zeeland’s transport system. In fact, the community bus, together with bus, train and ferry, forms the backbone of public mobility. The different modes of transport are set up to reinforce one another.

The community bus fulfils an essential function for a broad group of travellers. Every day, many people use this form of transport, in part thanks to the commitment of dedicated volunteers from the various associations that Zeeland is rich in. Their contribution ensures that travellers continue to enjoy using public transport in the region. Community bus associations also play an important role in social contact between travellers. We cherish the valuable work of all community bus associations.

Consultation and preparation for the future

On 26 March 2026, the semi-annual consultation took place with the boards of the community bus associations. During this meeting, those present were introduced to EBS and the Reizen door Zeeland Centrale, and impressions of the future vehicle were shared.

In addition, attention turned to the concession change in December 2026 and practical matters were discussed, such as charging vehicles, insurance, cleaning, maintenance, training and contact persons. This coordination should ensure a smooth transition to the renewed system.

An important principle is that the existing community bus routes will remain unchanged in 2027, unless the community bus associations and the Province decide otherwise by mutual agreement. This means the familiar structure will largely be retained, while at the same time work continues on a future-proof and flexible mobility network.

Accessible and future-oriented

With the combination of fixed routes and flexible transport, Zeeland is committed to an accessible and future-oriented public mobility system. The community bus remains an indispensable link within it, ensuring connection, accessibility and engagement in the region.
